Wir haben eine sehr großzügige Spende von Indimaj erhalten. GBS und als Dankeschön haben wir dieses Video erstellt, um unseren Lagerbetrieb zu zeigen. Schau mal!

We received a hugely generous donation from Indimaj. GBS and as a thank you we created this video to show our warehouse operations. Take a look!
From the first boat landing back in 2015 to becoming the largest humanitarian warehouse on the island of Chios, this film takes a look at the journey of CESRT/Offene Arme in the last five years.

On the occasion of 5 years since the first landing Toula responded to, the Founder of CESRT reflects on what the organisation has achieved
A brief explanation of the OADW, a free shop operated by Offene Arme in Chios, Greece which is available to all asylum seekers and refugees on the island.

Unfortunately from about 300 of the most recent life jackets we’ve collected from beach landings in recent weeks we have, yet again, found something shocking and incredibly sad. The materials in the lifejackets are nowhere near the support needed to save the lives of the people making the difficult journey from Turkey to Chios. The closest to proper buoyancy we’ve come across is the first material you see in the video. Unfortunately we have only found about 5 or 6 life jackets out of 300 with this material in it.
The second material shown in the video would only support someone in a swimming pool, not out at sea between Turkey and Chios. This type of material can be found in the packaging of electronics to protect TV screens, not humans from the sea.

The third material is the most shocking. Words cannot describe how sad and depressing it is that people are led to believe that this device could save their life. It is essentially cotton fibre material and if it gets wet it, it absorbs the water and will weigh a person down.

In the second video Ben shows us what happens with this material. After a couple of seconds under water you can see how it doesn’t repel water, and actually collects it.

People are risking their lives almost every day to seek refuge in Europe by boat. These jackets that they are given are found throughout the islands. They are not good enough for the open sea and can be deadly.
